Hiawatha Running Club 2016
All students, staff and family members are encouraged to join the Hiawatha Elementary Running
Club. You don't need to be an experienced runner to join the club. As long as you have a good
attitude and want to work hard, we would love to have you! In 2014, 208 of the school's 409
student tried running club at least once. That's over half of the school! In 2015 a record number
of kindergartners attended running club! In 2016 our running club placed second for the participation award at the Lace Up for Learning Race.
Starting April 4, we will meet every Monday and Friday at 7:50AM. Supervision for students will
be available starting at 7:35. At 8:45 students will be dismissed to their classroom. If a student
eats breakfast at school, they may go to the cafeteria around 8:30. We will finish the running
club season on May 13, 2017 at the Lace Up for Learning race.
Meet in the gym for attendance and announcements. We will start at 7:50 sharp and head outside
to the fitness trail. Please dress appropriately to run outside. Many students will wear gloves and
a hat. If it is raining, we will cancel Running Club for that day. If it starts to rain while the
student are running, we will exercise in the gym the remainder of the time.
Students, staff and families will have the opportunity to purchase a running club shirt for
approximately $5. In the past, many parents have purchased a running club shirt for themselves
to wear as they join their student at the Lace Up for Learning race. If you are able, please
consider donating a little extra money so a student that cannot afford a shirt will receive one.
